We had a quick trip to Sydney over this past weekend. One of the incentives was going to see one of our favourite bands The Flaming Lips play at the Opera House. They weren’t playing any shows in a Perth, (nobody ever does….well rarely) so as always we had to go to them. The other reason for going to Sydney though was to catch up with Taryn, Mike (Steve’s brother) and their two girls. We stayed two nights at their place and on the first night we went for dinner at a nearby Greek restaurant called Seed. We went there last time an really enjoyed it, so we requested a revisit. It didn’t disappoint, and was super delicious again. The pickled octopus being a real highlight. I don’t seem to have any photos though, so you will just have to imagine the deliciousness.
On Sunday we went to a cute place called Roji Monster. It’s a Japanese dessert cafe and everything about it was super kawaii!
You use stamps on a card to place your order.
Their specialty is a kind of icey shaved icecream that looks like a monster on your plate. They have flavours such as matcha, black sesame and chocolate. I had planned to get the icecream, but…..when I saw the special Roji Monster waffle set, I could not resist it! Steve got the matcha icecream with a mini taiyaki and chocolate chips on the side (you can choose two side dishes).
We both got Hojicha lattes.
The girls got chocolate and more chocolate, and Taryn and Mike got Black Sesame.
The cafe is designed really nicely -very Japanese, complete with Tatami mats.
And the verdict? Delicious! My waffle was really tasty. It had some sort of jam in the middle and it was just a little crispy. Also the matcha icecream was good and strongly flavoured with matcha. I tried some of Steve’s matcha icecream and really like that too. It’s kind of an icey icecream but it’s quite refreshing – I imagine it’d be good on a hot day.
So Roji Monster I give you five stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️Tasty AND cute! A rare combination.
