Meet Me At Mikes

Meet Me At Mikes is a super cute shop on Brunswick Street in Melbourne. Whenever I go to Melbourne it’s always on the list of places I must visit. It has lots of cute things – clothes, hair clips, toys etc etc All the kinds of stuff I just love.  On my most recent sojourn to Melbourne (May), towards the end of a long day’s shopping on Brunswick Street, as  I walked in to Meet Me At Mikes –  I was stopped in my tracks, as I saw John Stirratt, the bass played from Wilco in there. I was quite startled and by the time I’d got the nerve to say something to him,  he had left. Bummer. Still, pretty cool,  obviously a man of good taste. (And just between you & me, the reason I was actually in Melbourne was to see Wilco’s two shows at The Forum theatre, which were both quite mind-blowingly awesome)

But I digress,  the reason I am writing about Meet Me At Mikes is that they do cool things. And the only things I like better than cute things, is cool things. At the moment they are doing ‘The Envelope Project’. Basically, they are asking anyone to send in a decorated envelope, with something cute inside. The cute something can be anything – pictures, craft, photo, stickers, anything – but nothing pricey. The envelope’s will be displayed in their store window – and at the end of it all, one lucky person will win the stash of cute stuff people have sent in. Genius!

Well this sounded just to perfect a thing for me to do. After 3 trips to Japan, my house is OVERFLOWING with cute. So many stickers, brochures, flyers, magazines….things that I brought back from Japan that I love, but don’t really have any thing to do with. So this is what I put together –

Meet Me At Mikes Envelope of Cute

The picture on the envelope comes from Japanese character magazine/book called Bonte. This was one of the pages of a calender that came with an issue. Also inclded are some paper strawberries & other food (from a Japanese kids magazine), a Hello Kitty envelope (“I’m as Tall as 5 Apples” she proclaims), some dinosaur stickers, and a recipe for Alphabet biscuits.

And this is the back of the envelope :
