Dinner #176: 22/1/2013

Today we checked out of our hotel as we were going out to Steve’s parents place for the night. We met up with Danni for breakfast at the Hardware Societe. It was really busy, but food was incredibly tasty.

Then Steve got picked up by his father, and I stayed on in the city for the day to do some shopping. Danni came along with me for a trip to Daiso that lasted about an hour. I love Daiso, some much cool stuff at $2.80 a piece. Sure, it’s not quick a 100Yen store, but pretty bloody close. I bought a heap of stuff, then Danni had to leave for work, and I went off to Brunswick Street. I didn’t buy as much as I thought (a Bambi planter, a tee shirt from Monster Threads….I think that’s it) and I headed back in to the city for a bowl of udon at my new favourite place in the world, Nama Nama. This time I had the pork udon with spinach and a quail egg. It was delicious. At the moment, udon soup is trying to knock off ramen from the top of my favourite type of noodle soup. It’s a tough competition. Sadly, there is no photo of this delicious bowl of udon.

Then I had time for a quick coffee at my favourite lil cafe near Degraves Lane (but it’s not Degraves lane). I sat outside and enjoyed my coffee, but then had to leave when the guy with the “Fuck Wars” t-shirt (apparently a hilarious pun on Star Wars) asked if he could sit opposite me. Luckily, I was just about to leave anyway.

Then I got on the Belgrave Line train headed for Heathmont. I listened to Band of Horses on my iPod on the way.

Dinner came in the form of a Webber cooked chicken, home grown beans & potatoes and a salad (the salad was also made almost entirely from home grown produce – only the tomatoes were bought) and some Chilean wine from Steve’s dads one time co-worker who now lives in Chile. Divine.
