Dinner #249: 6/4/2013

Today we went to Erwin & Irmgards house in Voitsberg, just out of Graz. We had afternoon soup and Kaiserschmarn. Very delicious.

Then a bit later we went out for dinner at a local Buschenschank – a type of restaurant that is only open over the summer/spring months (although, spring is nowhere to be seen here at the moment) and only sells local, regional produce. Cold meats and the like. All the good stuff. One of the things I had was Grammel Schmulz. This was something we used to have when we were children all the time, but the speck required to make it is no longer available in Perth. It’s basically rendered pork fat in reality, I know that probably sounds disgusting to some of you, but if you’ve grown up with it, it’s not. Anyway, it was great to have it again, and dinner was freaking amazing – but I was sooo full and I couldn’t eat nearly as much as I would’ve like to 😦

We also drank lots of local wine. Possibly a little too much. And schnapps.
