This town is crazy for cats! This is a good thing because cats rule and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. I love walking down a winding path and stumbling across some cats just chillin’ – it really adds soul to a place.
The view from our accomodation is next level. It’s a trek and a half to get there – up about 20,000 steps, but it is worth it. The place is an old tea house that is over 100 years old that has been converted into accommodation. Our room is tiny (3 tatami mats) but the view makes up for it.

We had breakfast in the cafe at our accommodation- also with magnificent views.

It was raining a lot those morning. The plan was to walk down the hill to the shopping street which is an undercover mall and look at some shops – the weather was meant to be clearing in the afternoon so we planned to do some more outdoorsy stuff then.
We meandered down the hill in the rain. So many windy paths leading all over the place to temples and shops and cafes. It very much feels like we are in a Ghibli movie.

We stumbled upon “cat alley” – lots of cat drawings and sculptures and cat like things – very cool. I think I took like 100 photos.

We looked at a bunch of temples on our way down the hill. There are a lot of temples here. They look even more amazing in the rain.

We got down to the shopping street and I may have bought some cute cat items from a cute cat store. We found a cafe that I had been wanting to go to – and it was basically lunch time so decided to go in and have some lunch. It was such a cute place. But of theme in this country – they love their cuteness.
Steve got the chicken lunch set menu and I got the fried mackerel. We weren’t entirely sure what we were going to get (my Japanese reading skills + Google translate can only get us so far) but when they arrived they looked spectacular- and tasted even better! So reasonably priced too – mine was about $9.50 and Steve’s was $12.

After lunch we looked at a few more shops and I bought an awesome bag- handmade here in Onomichi.
We were keen for a coffee, But, it was really cold and we couldn’t find a cafe that had cosy indoor seating – most were just takeaway. So yes, we went back to Mister Donut – because those matcha donuts are amazing and their blend coffee is toasty hot.

Walked back up the hill to our accommodation and after dropping off some stuff headed up even higher to some temples at the top of the hill. Spectacular views greeted us. It was really cool up there. Also, there were many cherry trees again.

Back to the accommodation to do a bit of packing for tomorrow before heading down the stairs again to get some Onomichi Ramen for dinner. It got really cold here in the evening but at least the rain stopped, so perfect night for ramen.

Then we had to climb the stairs back up to our accommodation full of ramen 🍜
