Meant to Be

We managed to sleep reasonably well through the night, well mostly anyway. I was wide awake for several hours at about 2am I think, but overall not too bad.

Breakfast in the hotel cafe – pastry and coffee included in the stay. Good coffee and good pastry. But I was sooooo hungry…I had been dreaming about food all night.

We planned to take it pretty easy today. Jet lag + heat + Wilco gig tonight so didn’t want to tire ourselves out too much. One of the things we wanted to do was to buy Steve some hiking shoes, so after breakfast we headed off to a nearby outdoor goods shop.

Here are some things we saw on the way

Steve managed to find some shoes he liked so he bought them (no photos – look for them in future updates) so we dropped them back at the hotel. On the way we stopped at the Pickle pop up shop and bought some pickles.

Afternoon coffee at Brewlita. Tasty coffee. Flat whites are all the rage here these days.

A quick dinner from things we bought at Eataly in our hotel room – was actually very delicious.

Then we headed Uptown to the Beacon Theatre to see our favourite band and yours, Wilco. Yes, yes I know we are going to Solid Sound next weekend to see Wilco, but I mean, we are in New York and Wilco are playing, do you expect us not to go see them? And yes, we may be seeing them again on Monday night. Yes, it was meant to be.

Got there a bit early so had a bit of a wander around. It’s really hot here, hey.

Bought some merch – including this very amazing tee shirt designed by the extremely talented Shinobu who is a fellow Wilco comrade from Japan. Yes us Wilco fans are everywhere! You can’t stop us! I love this shirt so much – Wilco + Rollerskating ❤️

The best!

Cut Worms supported Wilco and they were great – but the sound was weird and really quiet and half the audience weren’t in to watch their set, and others just kept coming in throughout the set and talking loudly etc so it kind of spoiled it a bit. But they were still great.

Then it was time for Wilco! Again the sound was a bit weird and the two guys next to me kept talking loudly and looking at their phones 😡 but they eventually shut up (mostly) and Wilco were mint and they played 3 of my fave songs back to back – Meant to be, What Light & Theologians. In fact, they didn’t play Meant to Be in Australia so, yeh had to fly to NY just to hear that song. It was worth it. Wilco are the best, what else can I say?

Then we caught the subway back to our hotel. We might’ve caught the wrong train but it worked out ok in the end. Oh and people were breakdancing on the train. Awesome.
