No Sleep ‘til Brooklyn Bridge

After a fitful sleep we woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. So we got up early, had breakfast and decided to walk over Brooklyn Bridge. We wanted to do this yesterday but it was SO hot so we decided against it (which was a good call)

We caught the subway to the Brooklyn side of the bridge and commenced our walk. It’s a pretty cool bridge!

It was a little cooler today so that was nice. But it was also windy – on the day I decided to wear a hat and a dress.

It was a nice walk over the bridge with lovely views. Once our walk was successfuly completed we caught the subway to Bowling Green to see a “sea glass” carousel. The carousel was actually not very exciting but we realised we were now at the Staten Island Ferry terminal so decided to catch the ferry for a scenic boat ride – extra bonus it is FREE! It goes past the Statue of Liberty and was quite a lovely trip. Once we got to Staten Island we jumped on the next ferry and headed back across.

Boat ride successfully completed, we jumped back on the subway bound for Chelsea Market. We were getting hungry so decided to head there for lunch. Chelsea Market was cool with lots of food options. We chose this taco place because it had the longest line and decided they must be doing something right. Also it smelled really good.

Tacolicious!

After lunch we walked down to “Little Island” which is a cute little man made island structure thing that you can walk around and stuff. It had gotten soooooo windy though. Like really gusty – and as I mentioned earlier I was wearing dress today. Not ideal. Also I was actually cold!

We walked around the island and looked at the views in the howling wind.

Then we went and looked at Pier 57 which is an indoor food market and stuff but it seems to be owned by Google and was quite lame and sterile. We were a bit tired and cold though so we had a bit of a sit and chill on some couches which was nice enough.

We decided ti head back to our hotel to recalibrate as we were heading out to see Wilco again tonight.

We stopped by Eataly and grabbed some dinner items and mini cakes and got some take away coffees from Arabica where the barista was Australian. We haven’t reallly come across many Australians whilst we have been here.

We enjoyed our coffee and cake back at the hotel.

We ate dinner in our room (a nice selection of cheese, prosciutto and salad) before heading off to the Beacon to see Wilco for a 2nd time this trip.

We chatted to Wilco friend Paul and met Japanese Wilco friend Shinobu who is also over here for Solid Sound. Wilco friends are the best. Shinobu gave us cute badges that she had made.

We were up in the balcony for tonight’s show and had a great view of the stage. Cut Worms supported again tonight and the sound was a lot better from up in the balcony. They are a great band.

Then before we knew, Wilco were on stage again and yes they were awesome. Sound was A+ tonight and the set list, though similar to Saturdays including lots of different songs too. Fittingly, they finished with “Monday” being a Monday night and all. Fantastic stuff!

Then back on the subway home to our hotel. No break dancing on the subway tonight unfortunately.
