After a fitful nights sleep (the fireworks didn’t even keep us awake) and breakfast on our balcony, we headed off in to the wide world of Barcelona.

We were doing the only super touristy thing we have booked for this whole trip today – visiting the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia. So we headed off on the subway to our destination. We got there a bit early so had a bit of a wander around. There were a lot of people already gathering around the church but other than that we were surprised that the area was quite chilled and quiet. I was lead to believe it would madness around here, but madness it was not. Perhaps it was because it was a public holiday. Perhaps everyone was still recovering from their all night fireworks-a-thons. Who knows?
Anyway, we lined up and got in a little earlier and yes it was spectacular. The stained glass was just really awesome – such bright colours and stunning architecture.

Church successfully seen, coffee was in order, so we headed up to a cute cafe we had spied earlier. We were sensible and got cold brew coffee instead of a hot coffee because, yes, it’s quite hot here. We also got some delicious sandwiches.

Kinda just wanted to stay here all day.

But we wanted ice cream. There were many icecream places to choose from but we eventually decided on a place called Anita. It was a bit of a walk but it was nice just wandering the quiet streets. Most things are closed today as it is a public holiday.

Icecream was had and was delicious.
Then we caught the subway down to the harbour. Had a bit of a look around and saw the ocean. Then wandered around La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter until we could walk no more.

The original plan was to then catch the train up a mountain to Tibidabo but the heat and the subway system got the better of us, so we decided to abort our plans and head back to the hotel for a swim in the pool. Good decision all round.
