Scorchio

Didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. Went to bed late, didn’t sleep well and then at 6am our room started making a noise like it was a tractor or something. Oh well…so it goes…

We had to get up early too as we were taking a day trip to Figueres – an hour north of Barcelona to go to the Salvador Dali museum.

So after little sleep, we got up, had breakfast and walked to the train station. Barcelona is really lovely in the morning. The weather is warm and it’s just the locals starting their mornings having coffee and just chilling. It’s all pretty relaxed around here.

On the way we saw this danger slide – like it’s just crazy. I mean it looked liked fun, but also like you might die if you dared to go on it.

We were catching our first high speed train today so we had to be at the train station early. It’s a bit like the airport here – your bags have to go through the scanners etc etc We got through quite quick and after some initial confusion, we found where we needed to line up for our train. But then the time for our train to depart came and went and we were still standing there…..train delayed … but who knows for how long because we can’t understand the Spanish announcements. Our entry ticket for the Dali museum is timed so we start to get worried we may not make it on time….

After about 40 minutes we were finally allowed to board the train! Woo hoo! Looks like we will make it after all!

Train ride was pretty good – though I was a little annoyed I didn’t get a proper window view.

When we got to Figueres we didn’t know how to get to the museum. Apparently it is only a 20 minute walk away but it kinda looked desolate out there… we asked at information and the man told us the bus that was there would take us. Time is ticking by this point and it’s getting closer to our 10:30am timeslot. Steve is starting to panic as our bus once again gets trapped in traffic. We are not even sure what stop to get off at and where to go when we get off. Two Japanese ladies were sat in front of us and I could see from there phones that they were headed to the museum also so we decided to just follow them.

We got off the bus at 10:25am and couldn’t even vaguely see where the museum was – so with no one else to ask but the Japanese ladies -“Sumimasen. Dali museum ni ikimasu ka? Doko?” I think they were so shocked that they weren’t shocked and they just replied to me in Japanese and pointed in the direction which we hastily started running towards.

We found the museum and got there in plenty time (there was a line) and got in ok.

The museum was awesome btw.

After a couple of hours at the museum we decided lunch was in order so it was time to leave. We stopped at a place for a coffee and croissant.

Then we found a cute looking tapas/pinxtos place so we went there too and ate too much.

Calamari and croquettas

We had to get back to the station to catch our train back to Barcelona. Problems was, it was like 38 degrees out there. We couldn’t find a taxi and who knows when or where the bus runs from… what to do? What to do?

Well, we ended up walking…but it was HOT. We made it to the station without dying thankfully…but yeh…water was poured over our heads as we walked. Scorchio.

Back on the train and back to Barcelona – we got ice cofffees and walked back to our hotel (via the supermarket)

Afternoon pool swim and some dinner before heading out for icecream, a wander, another look at the Familia (in the dark – very cool) and a catch up of our day with Piper and Brett at a bar across the road from our hotel. All in all a busy and hot (but fun) day.

We like Barcelona.
