I Got Wilco and it’s All I Need

Our visit to Granada was to be a fleeting one sadly, but we still got to enjoy a delicious breakfast on the balcony of our hotel with views of the Alhambra and mountains in the distance.

Then it was back down the hill to meet up with Piper and Brett before catching a taxi to the train station to pick up our rental car. We are driving to Valencia today.

Car collected and Granada streets successfully navigated we were soon on our way to Valencia. Brett was doing the driving today – Steve desperately wanted to have a go too but it would’ve costed extra to add him as a driver so he had to be content to be a passenger today.

We didn’t have a lot of time – so we couldn’t get out to the coast or stop at any of the fun things we saw along the way, but the views were still really cool. We did stop for lunch in Murcia though and we arrived right during siesta time – luckily Piper managed to find a place that was open and actually really good too.

It’s really hot out there. We had to get back in the car.

Stopped at this crazy petrol station to re fuel.

And then many hours later we arrived in Valencia. Brett did a stellar job of driving. Mucho gracias.

Dropped car off, taxied to hotel, checked in, met a bunch of English people who were also going to see Wilco, dropped our stuff off in our room, recalibrated briefly then taxied to tonight’s venue. The last Wilco show of their European tour. The venue was down by the coast – it’s party town down there.

It’s really hot here. And humid. Hottest place yet. And that’s coming from me, someone who loves the hot.

We met some Wilco fans from Boston (who took this photo) then we got some pizza for dinner and just chilled and tried to stay cool before it was time for Wilco to play.

It was quite busy so I didn’t think I was going to get up the front tonight – but thanks to the very lovely Yolanda and Christina I managed to squeeze into a spot next to them on the rail. Yay!

Tonight was another amazing show – Wilco gave it their all despite the scorching temperatures and Spanish crowds are so enthusiastic yet considerate – the perfect combination for a great night.

And just over two hours later..it was all over…ah bittersweet. How lucky are we to be able to have seen 4 amazing shows in 4 amazing cities? But…it’s over so there is always an element of sadness as well. Melancholic I guess?

Sweaty Wilco friends from around the world

After the show we tried to get a cab or uber back to our hotel but it was proving difficult- we had to wait quite a while – I think we managed to finally get one at about 1:30am!

What a day! What an adventure! Best eveeeerrrrrr!!!!!
