Today was a big day.
We had breakfast at the place across the road before checking out of our Madrid hotel.

We are headed to Granada today and then on to Valencia before coming back to Madrid. So instead of lugging out suitcases all around the country we left them in some lockers in Madrid. It’s a thing.

We had a bit of a wander around Madrid – saw lots of books, a park with weird birds and enjoyed an iced matcha latte before getting to the station for our train to Granada.

After some initial confusion about where our train was leaving from, we made it on to the train and settled in for the long journey ahead. The high speed trains are great – this one was going at a speed of 300km per hour at points. Also – it was 42 degrees outside.

We made it to Granada around 5pm and then had to wait quite a while for a taxi to our hotels. We got dropped off at Piper and Brett’s hotel and then decided to walk the rest of the way to our hotel.
Ok it’s after 2am as I am typing this so I am going to bed… I will finish this tomorrow….
Hola! I’m back to finish today’s blog….now where was I?
The walk to the hotel was HOT and there were many stairs. Look it was very beautiful- a lot of, as they say on House Hunters International “Spanish Charm”.

We made it to our hotel – Casa Bomba and it was very beautiful and worth the climb. Complete with views of the Alhambra – which was a good thing as we were not going to have enough time to visit it on this trip sadly.

We checked in, had a quick dip in the VERY deep pool and then wondered how we were going to get to the show tonight.
We also needed dinner but time was ticking away – and the thing is – here in Spain – places don’t open for dinner until quite late, usually only the touristy places are open earlier. The venue for tonight’s show was actually a food festival as well…but we had read nothing good about it – crazy long queues etc ect so we weren’t going to chance it.
We got ready and headed down the stairs to try to find something. When we were *just* about to give in and just eat Burger King, we saw a place across the street that looked ok and then we saw Piper and Brett there.
We had this really great Enoki mushroom sushi, crispy cauliflower and our first patatas bravas for the trip.

Dinner had, now we had to work out how to get to the show. It was a little bit away so walking wasn’t an option. We were going to take the tram but then decided to just Uber it. At that point a huge Pride parade started coming down the street and everything got really busy and the wait for Uber increased exponentially.
There was a bit of panicking at this point in time as Wilco were on at 9pm tonight and it was like 8pm by now. Our Uber wasn’t turning up and it looked like he was driving to another town. Long story short – we got the receptionist at Piper and Brett’s hotel to call us a cab and thankfully it showed up quite quickly and he was an awesome driver and got us there quick smart. Muchos gracias!

Made it to the venue and worked our way through the hordes of drunk patrons to the front of the stage with only 15 minutes until Wilco were due to start. Phew!

It was hot and bright daylight when Wilco started but they played a great (if a little shorter) set and the crowd was really in to it.

Great show. Although the lady in front of me who filmed the entire show on her phone was a little annoying.
After the gig we caught the tram back to the city centre and walked back to our hotels.
A long, tiring but fun day in Granada.
