Chips on a Train

Time to leave Valencia today. I would’ve liked another day here but ‘‘twas not to be.

We had breakfast at our hotel – coffees, açai bowls and eggs. It was tasty – this hotel is doing things right.

Our train to Madrid wasn’t leaving until 3pm ish so we had a couple of hours to explore. We decided to just wander around the local Russafa area because it’s pretty cool around here.

One last sit on the hotel balcony

We wandered around then streets and came across the local Russafa market.

It was a really great little market. Again, I wish I had this at home.

So much jamon

We spent a while in there and then went off to have a coffee at Crema Coffee. We enjoyed our coffee at a different branch yesterday so thought we would give them another try. We also thought we would be able to get lunch there.

Some things we saw on the way

We got coffee but no food was available and we suddenly realised we were swiftly running out of time.

A brief moment of panic lead us to a local supermarket where we thought we could pick something up before we came to our senses and went back to the market and had a very delicious mortadella and mozzarella roll instead.

On route back to the hotel to pick up our bags we spotted Piper and Brett at a nearby cafe so we stopped in there for a refreshing rosemary and fruit of some type that I have forgotten soda water.

Bags collected, we bid adieu to Yours Hotel (a great place to stay) and headed back out in to the heat to walk to the station. We got a bit lost and Steve walked at high speed to find the correct station – I think he was hoping to hold the train for us if we didn’t make it. Anyway we found it, went to the platform and then proceeded to wait for nearly an hour as the train was delayed.

On the train finally – we ate our Jamon flavoured chips. Mmmm tastes like meat.

A few hours later, we arrived in Madrid. Caught a taxi to our hotel, checked in, a lady named Maria (it was on her shirt) hastily pushed in to the elevator (Maria had places to be), then went and picked our suitcases up from the lockers we had stored them in. Very convenient.

I went to a nearby supermarket to stock up on supplies and got to take the shopping trolley in to an elevator.

For dinner, we kind of took the easy way out and had burgers at a place next door to our hotel. They were fine, but we are in Madrid with amazing food everywhere so I kind of felt a little cheated. But, it’s late, and we were tired and hungry

We also got icecream because there are icecream shops everywhere!

Then we went for a walk around the area and found ALL THE THINGS.

It was so busy with people everywhere even though it was like 10:30pm on a Tuesday. Pretty cool.

Jamon leg pillows

Then it was late and time to go back to the hotel to sleep. I think we like this city.
