Climb Every Mountain

The morning brought rays of sunshine, blue skies and mountains vistas. And besides a few squashes on the paths, the slugs had all retreated to wherever it is that slugs retreat to during the day. A big slug nest probably. I do not want to even think about it.

Slugs aside, it really is beautiful here.

Our breakfast was delivered to our doorstep in a very French picnic basket. It contained – bread, croissants, preserves and coffee.

Breakfast views

After breakfast, we packed some lunch and headed off to climb a mountain. Well, we are going to drive up the mountain – but we will be hiking at the top.

Cows on the road!
Moooove!

We sort of found a parking spot near where we wanted to be. It was quite busy, as is everywhere.

We started walking – it was meant to be an easy trail, though it didn’t seem all that easy. Also it quite hot. Nice views though.

Yeh so ugly

We stopped for lunch on a rock by the lake.

Steve with olives

More wandering after lunch. Saw some nice waterfalls.

Butterfly friend

As always it’s kind of hard to capture it in photos. It really was lovely though and we even very briefly saw a marmot after we heard him screaming on a rock.

Location of where the marmot was, sans marmot

It was getting really hot so we hiked back down and tried to find a coffee somewhere but weren’t entirely successful. So we went back to our campsite for a coffee. It was average but we did see some cats as we sat there.

I must say, the chocolate game in Spain and France has been quite poor. We ended up with Kit Kats with our coffees but I really wanted something better/different but the choices were few.

Cute garden

We went and checked out a small local market in the nearby town. Parking proved difficult because apparently the Tour De France is coming through here tomorrow. Who knew? Not us. So road closures, parking closures etc had already begun.

The local charcuterie place was roasting whole chickens and turkey legs and bits of pork and it all looked good, so we ended up getting one of the roast pork rolls and some garlic potatoes to take back to our campsite for dinner

Dinner

We had a very early dinner today! Like 6pm. Bit of a change of pace from Spain and it’s 10pm dinners.

Just hanging on our verandah

Don’t think we did much else today – I had a bit of a headache so went to bed quite early.

But it really is nice here. We think we want to stay.

Sunset on the mountain

Oh some of the slugs started coming out once it got dark – but not as bad as last night at least.
