Slug Cabin (aka they mostly come out at night, mostly)

Time to leave San Sebastian today – we decided we liked this place after all and hope to return one day. Check out wasn’t til midday and we didn’t have far to drive today so we spent the morning hanging around.

Of course we had to have our favourite coffee one last time.

Posing with my new shoes

It was stop start raining again today. I don’t want my new shoes to get wet!!!

Rainy beach kayakers – looks like fun

Picked up some bread for our dinner. There was a long line at the bakery! We are heading to a campsite in the French Pyrenees today – so unsure what type of food will be available so we need to stock up on a few things.

The bread was warm and toasty

So it was lunch time by now and we decided to get lunch before we left. One last sea urchin from Bar Sport.

Ate them right there at the bar

Then our plan was to go to a place called Ganbara. Apparently it was Anthony Bourdain’s favourite place. It was closed the whole time we were here and was opening at 12:30pm today – we thought we could sneak in a quick lunch there. Well, unfortunately we weren’t the only ones with this idea – we got there at about 12:35pm and the restaurant was full with a line outside half way down the street…oh well… we weren’t going to line up so we went back to our favorite place whose name eludes me and had lunch there.

We ordered way too much food but it was all delicious.

And then it was time to leave San Sebastian and head to the French Pyrenees. This will be the first time either of us have ever been to France!

On the way there we stopped at a suburban Mercadona supermarket. This was the most fun we have had all holiday 😆

We were soon stocked up and on our way – and soon we crossed the border into France. We stopped at a service station that sold croissants and completely lost all ability to communicate with anyone. After speaking Spanish for over 3 weeks – trying to say Bonjour instead of Hola was near impossible.

The sort of things French Servo’s sell

It was really rainy and drizzly all day today. We couldn’t see any mountains, and didn’t believe there were any there. We drove up some winding roads and found our accommodation and checked it. It’s super cute. We are at a campsite but we have a little cute cabin. The guy checking us in was very friendly and there is bread everywhere.

Cute!

We went for a walk around the campsite and saw this cat sitting out in the field just staring. He was still there hours later.

We drove to the nearby small town just to get the lay of the land. Very cute around here.

We had bread and jamon and cheese and tomato for dinner.

Still really drizzly outside. I wondered if there actually were mountains out there somewhere. It was finally starting to get dark outside – close to 10pm. And that’s when we saw them…first it was one, then two, then five, then everywhere we looked outside our cabin – SLUGS! GIANT BROWN SLUGS! EVERYWHERE! Omg they were so gross and scary and we don’t have a toilet in our cabin and it’s dark outside and how am I going to get to the bathroom without standing on one? No, no, this is not good at all. I dodged my way to the bathroom before promptly locking ourselves in to our cabin and not going out there again until morning. We can reassess the situation then.
