Time to leave Tokyo today. It’s been good. We love Tokyo. It’s an amazing place with so many layers that we will never tire of. It was good to be back and we are already planning our return.
We had onigiri breakfast at Andon before going for a jaunt around Minowa to check out some of our old haunts. The Minowa “Joyful Arcade” being one of them. Nothing was open yet but it was nice to see it’s still the same.

We also stopped at nearby Hori bakery for a chocolate croissant and a teeny tiny Basque cheesecake which we ate back at Andon before we left.

We said our goodbye’s and got in a taxi bound for Tokyo station. In hindsight- we should’ve just got the subway as we were originally going to do. There’s a lot of traffic in Tokyo and the trains are actually quicker.
Tokyo station was insanely busy! We were glad we knew what we were doing – I think if it was your first time here it could’ve been a bit overwhelming!
We lined up and bought some Eki Ben for our lunch and went down the platform to wait for our Shinkansen to arrive.

We got on the train and settled in to our 4 hour ish journey to Fukuyama – the train was very full and everyone was excitedly eating their bento. We waited until midday because I mean, was lunch after all.
We both had salmon and ikura (salmon roe) bento. Steve dropped some ikura and we laughed at how it was like rolling Jaffas down the isles at the cinemas – and then we wondered why that was even a thing. And it is a thing – I looked it up on the internet.

We also ate these – Butter Butler cookies.

After a bit of a nap we were in Fukuyama before we knew it. Then we transferred to a local line to get to Onomichi. Once at Onomichi we stopped by Mister Donut for coffee and donuts.

Then we climbed up the side of the mountain to our accommodation with our luggage and nearly died in the humidity. We made it though, and look it’s worth it for the view. We love this place.

Saw some cats on the way up

After checking in and recalibrating briefly, we headed back down the mountain to find dinner. We walked around the undercover arcade and eventually decided to go to the Okonomiyaki place we went to last time. The Okonomiyaki was delicious and we had a nice chat to a couple from Canada who Steve asked if they were American. Ouch.

Then we walked back to our accommodation in the drizzly rain and put on a load of washing.
