We had a tough day today.

Our cat Yuki’s health took a turn – she had stopped eating and drinking in the last few days at the Cat Hotel. Jess, the owner of Furbaby Retreat messaged us and it was agreed that she needed to go to the vet ASAP.

The vet ran tests and phoned us to let us know that she had renal failure and recommended euthanasia. Obviously we are not there atm so we didn’t know what to do. We considered jumping on a plane and racing home as soon as we could to see her. But, the vet wasn’t even sure if she would make it that long.

And so, we had to decide from a million miles away to agree with the vet’s recommendation. It was an incredibly tough decision and we are so sad that we couldn’t be there. Our awesome friend Pete went to the vet and stayed with her until the end.

She turned 18 in August – and up until recently her health was pretty good. In the last couple of months we had noticed a decline and she had started to lose a lot of weight, but we never realised how serious it was. They say Ragdoll cats are good at masking sickness – well I guess that’s true.

And so, this blog will be taking a short hiatus while we gather our thoughts and remember all our good times with Yuki.

Sorry for the downer of a post, but I thought it appropriate to let you all know.

FYI all this happened whilst we were at Rabbit Island surrounded by hundreds of rabbits. We always thought Yuki was more like a rabbit than a cat so I guess it was kind of appropriate.
