Common People

We had yogurt and a banana for breakfast before heading to Lune for our standard coffee and croissant.

Then we walked to Lygon Street and had a look around there. Checked out the bookshop and bought a book. Continued our walk on to the Queen Victoria Markets. Had a wander around the markets and bought some cute socks.

It was almost lunch time by now so we went to 279 Victoria St in North Melbourne for lunch. We both got the onigiri lunch set. Delicious.

We also had Matcha lattes.

After lunch we walked back to our hotel – about a 10km round trip. We were a bit tired after all this walking so we chilled for the afternoon at the hotel.

In the late afternoon we caught the tram in to the city and tried to find something small for dinner. We had a look at Melbourne Central – it was so crazy busy in there and everyone was looking at the clock thing.

We ended up going to a Japanese place and having some sushi rolls for dinner.

Then we headed on over to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl – the site for tonight’s Pulp concert. We thought we needed to lineup at least a bit early. When we got there we didn’t really know where to lineup. There were signs but we didn’t quite understand what our tickets actually were.

While we waited we chatted to others in line with us and met some people who we recognised from the Adelaide show.

When the opened the gates, we got our wristbands and ran in to our area which was “city terrace”. Security guards told all us crazy people to stop running and we all laughed.

We found our spot and it was actually decent. We had a good view and we were at the front of our section albeit quite far from the stage. Oh well, we can’t be on the rail for every show.

Met some people next to us – one of them was from Perth!

I went off to explore the grounds and look at the merch tent as I had heard there was different merch than that was in Adelaide. There was a HUGE line for merch but I decided to line up – there was a hoodie that I had my eye on.

I chatted to a lady in line while waiting for the merch line to move. Her teenage son was the Pulp fan which was pretty cool.

Got to the from of the line and bought a Pulp hoodie, because when will I ever get the chance to buy one again?

The support band – Bleak Squad – had started by now so hoodie in hand, I raced back to our spot. On route I almost ran in to Pulp’s bass player – I had to say hello, what else could I do? So I called his name and he looked at me like he knew me but then suddenly realised he didn’t – I laughed and said I followed him on Instagram and that we had met him briefly in Bilbao. Some guy started yelling at him “Tell Jarvis to play…” and I took this opportunity to to run away.

Support band were fine but not really my thing..

Then Pulp played and they were excellent. Got a couple of different songs – an ABBA cover and a new song – Begging For Change. Was awesome but I missed being up front. So many people just walking around and being distracting. Also they didn’t get to play their last song because of a curfew. What is this, Perth or something?

And then, just like that, it was over. We headed out slowly and tried to go have a beer at the Cookie building but there was a line of young people trying to get in.

We had chips at Stalictites instead. A good night all round.

Oh and there was a lunar eclipse!
