Steve was feeling a bit better today. Well, well enough to go out for a bit. We first wandered down to a nearby shopping arcade. Love these old shopping arcades in Japan. I would love to live near one. They sell fresh produce as well as anything else you might need. We couldn’t walk past these freshly grilled scallops.
Then we headed on to Yanaka. A lovely little area that we just love wandering around in. We also love the Kayaba Coffee cafe. We have been here quite a few times and it has never disappointed us. There was a bit of a wait to get in as it has got quite popular, but it wasn’t too long. Steve got the curry and I got the beef hash. I don’t know what they are doing in that kitchen, but they are doing it right. So damn delicious!
When we left the cafe we met some of Steve’s work friends out front which was pretty crazy. We continued our wandering. There is a lot of cats in Yanaka.
We then headed to Kappabashi dori or Kitchen Street. This is an entire street filled with kitchenware shops. It’s basically my idea of heaven. It really doesn’t get much better. I bought some plates and dishes and a Kayari Buta (Not really for the kitchen) – that’s a ceramic pig that holds mosquito coils. I’ve wanted one of these for a VERY along time. I did want to buy everything, but there’s only so much that will fit in the suitcase.
Then we made a quick trip to Ginza before heading back to Minowa where we had Toybox Ramen for dinner. Great ramen. This was our second time here. We will be back next time we are in town.
