Goats on the Road

The plan was to get up early-ish, have some breakfast and then go for a little explore around Leon and grab a coffee and maybe some churros. We haven’t had any churros yet, and today was not going to be the day.

Due to being kept awake all night from street partying and noisy neighbours- we ended up sleeping until about 10:30am. Luckily we had a midday check out but it meant we didn’t really have any time to sightsee.

I went and grabbed some quite average take away coffees from one of the few places open to have with our breakfast.

Snapped this pic on the way

It was quite nice out on the streets of Leon this morning – with all the party people tucked up in bed.

Time to hit the road again – the mountains are calling and we must go.

See ya Leon

It wasn’t long before we hit long windy roads through mountainous terrain – quite stunning really, and very different to the Spain we have seen so far.

It’s hard to capture in photos though so I do apologise if it doesn’t look that spectacular.

We stopped for some service station snacks.

Then we stopped off at a town called Canga De Onis – the lady at the Sixt Car rental place recommended it to us. It was such a cute little town.

It was after 3pm by now and we hadn’t really eaten lunch and we were not sure if dinner was going to be available at our accommodation tonight so we decided to get some food here. Plenty of places to choose from but we liked the look of this place near the river. We are in cider country here – though we couldn’t really have any as Steve was driving and I didn’t want to drink alone. I was starving which is a problem…because then we ordered ALL the food. We wanted to try the Asturian Bean stew, but then I wanted the lamb chops, oh but we should probably have a salad too…oh dear…we have ordered enough food for like 10 people….

Let’s get a salad too, we said

Ok, so there was a LOT of food – but OMG IT WAS SO GOOD! The stew was AMAZING and those lamb cutlets were so delicious – tasted like what I remember lamb used to taste like. I pretty much ate that entire plate – I couldn’t believe it. So good.

We had a bit more of a wander around town (and bought a magnet) before we decided that it was probably time to find our accommodation for the night.

We drove up and down mountain and tunnels through mountains and lots of windy roads…very spectacular indeed. Again, impossible to capture on camera.

And just as we were starting to panic that our accommodation wasn’t where we thought it was – we saw goats on the road and we knew everything would be alright.

The lonely goatherd

We carefully navigated our way around the goats and then our accommodation appeared before our eyes – Hostal Pocebos. Phew!

We made it!

Our room is small with a shared bathroom but there is a huge mountain outside our window so beggars can’t be choosers, right? Absolutely stunning!

We went for a bit of walk around but we were really tired due to lack of sleep in Leon. Luckily because we ate all the food earlier in the day we didn’t need dinner. We were asleep by 9:30pm.
