That Time We Went to Little Spain for Lunch at the exact same time the Madrid vs Saudi Arabia World Cup Soccer Match was just about to begin…

Breakfast pastries and coffee at Untitled to start the day. Didn’t have the best sleep last night so feeling a little weary this morning.

After breakfast we nipped up to Whole Foods to re stock breakfast yogurts and other snacks.

Then back to Untitled to drop it off. The alley way leading up to the hotel is an ever changing canvas of graffiti.

It was a warm, sunny day – Summer Solstice in fact, so we decided to go for a walk along the Highline. It was stinking hot when we walked it when we were last here 2 years ago, we thought the weather was a more pleasant temperature today.

Saw this guy at a subway station

We had a quick look through Chelsea Market before commencing our walk. It was early and thus really quiet in there which was nice.

We had a nice stroll along the Highline. Nice views and gardens and really cool buildings.

At the end (or the start depending on which was you go) is “The Vessel” – you can get up it. But we didn’t.

By now it was rapidly approaching lunch time – and I had planned this well – as at the end of the walk was Little Spain – an in door food hall type place that is all Spanishy. Perfect for an early lunch.

It was pretty busy in there and lots of people were wearing their Spanish football jerseys. “It’s ok the Spanish World Cup match is on Tuesday that’s why I said we should come today” ….or so I thought.

We had a look around, got excited about a cafe selling “Cafe Con Helio” (it’s just iced coffee ok) and saw a plate of octopus that we needed to eat. So we sat down at a bar table of a place and began to peruse the menu.

It started getting busier and the screens playing seemed to indicate a sporting match was about to take place. We ordered some octopus, pork belly and Gilda’s and then realised that yes, in fact the Spain vs Saudi Arabia match was just about to begin.

Spain scored a goal very early on in the match and oh boy everyone in the place went wild! I did get a little video of it but I missed initial excitement.

Anyway, it got more crowded and everyone got more excited and Spain scored 2 more goals and we ordered more food and I had a beer and it was actually a lot of fun.

The olives were amazing.

We finished our food and drinks by about half time, but by now we were in invested and we had to stick around to see what happened. We went and got a coffee (cafe con helio) and joined everyone else watching the big screens.

Spain won in the end 4-0 and everyone was very excited. It was definitely a fun experience- and that’s said by me who doesn’t really care for sport of any kind.

Lunch and football over, we walked to Times Square – we were planning on heading to Bryant Park to chill for a bit, but Times Square got in the way. Never mind – I got to visit some of my favourite shops – Mini Sou, Old Navy and The Disney Store.

We did eventually make it to Bryant Park, but by this stage our energy was quickly fading. A quick visit to Kinokuniya was in order before getting on the subway and heading back home.

We stopped off at Little Italy to pick up some dinner (after our big lunch we decided room dinner was in order)

Back at our hotel, after a quick game of Bomb Jack on their arcade table, we thought going up to the roof top bar was a good idea. Despite the fact that we were almost falling asleep, we both enjoyed an Old Fashioned whilst looking at the skyline.

Energy levels were depleted by now. Dinner was had (salad, cheese, crackers, prosciutto), some episodes of Bobs Burgers were watched and then I think we were asleep by about 9:30pm.
