Farewell Floridian Friends

We had Tourists breakfast this morning. Steve had overnight oats and I had avocado toast with bacon – it was pretty good.

Overnight oats

We spent most of the morning sitting on the deck at Tourists hanging out with Piper and Brett who were heading off today. We were sad to see them go – most likely we will not see each other again until 2026! Although we are all secretly hoping we can organise something sooner (I’m looking at you Wilco – we need some shows in a more central location, say Hawaii or Japan perhaps?)

After we said our long farewells to our friends (we miss you already!!!) we went to the nearby Greylock Works which is an old factory that has been repurposed in to shops/cafes etc – like a lot of the buildings around here.

We had a wander around (note to Piper and Brett: we didn’t find the Jean jacket) and looked in a cute little shop full of things made by local artists. We ended up buying a cute print and I got a cool Berkshires t shirt.

We had planned to have a coffee there but time was getting on and it was lunch time and we had to get to Tu’s pop up Vietnamese cafe for lunch. Tu made our Vietnamese dinner at Tourists on Tuesday night.

Steve got banh mi
I got the rice noodles

After lunch we went back to Tunnel City Coffee at Mass MOca for an afternoon coffee. It was a bit sad to see the Wilco letters gone. Solid Sound is well and truly over folks. Tomorrow we head off to different pastures…or something.

I’ve bought a lot of tshirts on my trip so far. Sorry, not sorry. Solid Sound always have a “garage sale” on the Sunday and all tshirts were $5. I’d been hanging out for 5 years for this! So I think I got 8 shirts from the sale!

Sorted for the next 2 years

It rained in the afternoon but we still went for a quick swim. It was nice but as always too many screaming children.

When the rain had stopped, we went for a walk around the trails behind Tourists. It was nice after the rain.

We were just turning around to head back, when I looked back and saw something that I thought was a some sort of rogue wombat. “Holy heck! What the $&@! Is that?” This thing was huge. As it heard us, it turned and started waddling back up the hill – and that’s when we could tell – it was a beaver! Omg it was seriously gigantic!

Hello friend
Look at that tail!

He popped back out for another Quick Look at us, but then was gone. So cool! Neither of us had ever seen one before so that was super exciting. On the wander back to Tourists we met a nice family from New Orleans who we stopped and chatted with for quite a while – they were quite knowledgeable about music and even knew that Bon Scott from AC/DC was from Perth.

After much deliberation, we decided to go in to North Adams and go to PUBLIC for dinner. We went there last time and enjoyed so we were hoping it was still good. We had to wait for a bit to get a table as it was very busy. Dinner was good though – we shared Mac n Cheese, Caesar salad and tempura chicken. The chicken was the highlight! Delicious!

Then we had one last wander around North Adams – and I was very excited to see that the Wilco sign was still up on the Mohawk theatre AND it was lit up. I’d failed to get a pic of it over Solid Sound weekend on account of it always being too late by the time we walked past it of an evening.

See you in 2026 North Adams!

We had a bit of a hang out in the deck back at Tourists before heading back to our room and finishing up our packing for tomorrow. The fireflies were going wild and we watched them from our windows for quite a while.
