We arrived at Keflavik airport at about 6am I think. Which was like 2am Boston time. Got through customs, picked up our bags and stopped for a coffee and a random pastry and the small convenience store at the airport. We were pretty tired even though we managed to sleep a bit on the plane.

Then we had to find where to pick up the rental car from. We walked around in a circle for a while before realising it was a hike across the car park. So out in to the Iceland morning we went…..straight in to the howling wind and sideways rain and freezing cold. As we dragged our suitcases through dirty car park puddles, we suddenly yearned the blistering heat of Massachusetts and wondered “have we just made a terrible mistake?”
We picked up our car and starting heading towards our first destination which was just out of the small town of Selfoss – about a 2 hour drive. Problem was, we couldn’t check in until 5pm. It was currently 7am.
As we drove through the stunning landscape seeing horses with flowing manes and fluffy sheep continuously, we wondered what we were going to do.
After a brief stop at a random hotel lobby we decided to just go to accommodation and see if they would be kind to us and let us check in early.
We found our accommodation- and the lady was very friendly and let us sit in this converted shed space while she quickly made up our room. We ended up taking this opportunity to nip off to the nearest supermarket to buy breakfast supplies.

We got back to our accommodation around 11am and our room was ready. We just fell over and went to sleep for 2 hours. Unfortunately we had to wake up at 1pm because we had booked to go to the hot springs at the Secret Lagoon at 2pm. Once again, we thought we had made a terrible mistake.
Secret Lagoon was awesome though and we were glad we went.

We figured we needed dinner so we drove to Selfoss and went to a foodhall type place that we went to last time we were in this part of the world. We had some dumplings and salad and stuff. It was good. We were very tired.

I think we stopped by another supermarket and then we went back to our accommodation and fell asleep at like 7pm and slept for about 12 hours.
