Everybody’s Puffling

We had to catch a ferry to the Westman Islands today. We were scared we wouldn’t wake up in time – but we did. We had our breakfast and packed up. It was a shame to leave this place after such a short visit. Our accommodation was so cute. I wanted to stay there forever!

We headed to the ferry port, on the way we spotted the American School Bus cafe. We had a bit of time to spare and we were caffeine deficient so we decided to stop in. Also, how could we NOT stop in. It was the coolest ever!

The inside was all decked out with cool kitschy retro memorabilia. The coffee was great too!

We headed on towards the harbour and suddenly thought we might be a bit late and miss our ferry. But, we got there in time and the ferry was actually delayed by 45 minutes so we had plenty of time. We parked our car in line to get on the ferry – we were taking our car across to the island.

Today’s main mission : to see puffins. Apparently the largest colony of puffins live on these islands.

Driving on to the ferry was pretty cool and the trip across was too. It was a little choppy on the water but for the most part it was ok. The trip across takes 45 minutes. There is some pretty epic scenery as you come in to the islands.

Kinda hard to capture the epicness

Once on land, we headed straight for the puffin lookout area.

And we saw puffins! Lots of them! They weren’t super close but they were everywhere- so cool!

After looking at the puffins for ages, we walked around the area for a bit, then drove around the island and stopped for lunch at a bakery. But this time it was time to get back on the ferry and head back to the mainland.

Back on the mainland we had some waterfalls to see. But even when you plan to see a specific waterfall in Iceland, you will always find another one.

We found this one and had to stop. You can walk behind it.

Lucky we had our wet weather gear

Waterfall seen we headed off to the original water fall that we were meant to go to – I think it’s called Skogafoss. Too many names to remember, I can’t remember them all.

Cool waterfall. You can get right up to this one and also climb about 1000 steps to get a view from the top. We chose to do this, though I regretted it about halfway up.

Then once we had had enough we headed on to tonight’s accommodation just outside the town of Vik. Very spectacular drive. Our accommodation had a cute cat and 4 dogs and goats. The owner said “do you want to see goats?” I said “Always” I didn’t end up seeing the goats.

We had dinner at a Brewery in Vik. It was really good. The. We looked at a church on the hill in the wind and the black sand beach.

Tasty
